Third Annual Great American Big Wheel Race Set For Saturday, July 22 at Joliet Memorial Stadium

Register a Team today and compete for cash prizes

JOLIET – There is still time to register a team for the third annual Great American Big Wheel Race scheduled for Sat. July 22 at Joliet Memorial Stadium. Each five-person team has the opportunity to win up to $5,000 in cash for its favorite charity.

“The Big Wheel Race is a unique fundraiser on multiple levels,” said Fred Ferrara, chairman of the Fundraising and Development committee for United Cerebral Palsy-Center for Disability Services. “This big wheel race for adults is an uncommon event in the area and we encourage other local charities to compete for the cash prizes.”

Races begin at 6:00 p.m. in a double elimination format until first, second, and third place teams are crowned. Each team pays a $1,200 entry fee which includes a big wheel, team t-shirts, and swag bags filled with goodies from local merchants. Returning teams that already have a big wheel will pay $1,100 and will receive team t-shirts and swag bags.

In addition to the racing, the Dock will operate its margarita truck and serve hot dogs, burgers, and sodas. There will be a beer tent and many other activities including a DJ playing hit music, a 50/50 raffle, and a kids’ race.

“This is truly a family event,” Ferrara said. “We invite the entire community to join us for an evening of racing and fun all while helping our local non-profits organizations. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Event sponsors include Kozol Brothers, Walmart Shorewood, Jewel Osco, D’Arcy Motors and Citgo. Additional opportunities for local businesses to get involved and support this event are available.
